The Sanford Guides: Delivering Comprehensive Infectious Diseases Treatment Recommendations Where Needed Most—At The Point Of Care

  1. Today, the world is at a crossroads on many levels, including medicine. The advent of modern antibiotics and the eradication of age-old diseases were triumphs of medicine and human determination in the latter half of the 20th century. But now, those accomplishments have been overshadowed by the AIDS epidemic, widespread resistant malaria and tuberculosis, concern over community-acquired MRSA and new diseases like SARS and H1N1 flu. The challenge remains how best to deliver relevant information where it is most needed. For infectious diseases, this means having the right information at hand to make timely, effective treatment decisions at the point of care—whether an urban ICU, a crowded HIV ward in Kampala, a medical relief tent in Sichuan, or an overworked primary care clinic.

  1. The Sanford Guides have provided up-to-date guidelines and recommendations for treatment of infectious diseases for 40 years. Comprehensive content with extensive source references, user-friendly tabular format, and portability are hallmarks that make the Sanford Guide the “gold standard” reference in its field.

  1. Drawn entirely from published medical literature, The Sanford Guide to Antimicrobial Therapy consistently delivers convenient, comprehensive recommendations for treatment and prevention of bacterial, fungal, viral, parasitic and mycobacterial infections, surgical prophylaxis, and ancillary information covering pharmacology, adverse effects, drug-drug interactions and dose adjustments, all supported by commentary and references. The Sanford Guide to HIV/AIDS Therapy provides the same broad coverage for HIV disease and AIDS, with an added focus on treatment options in areas of the world where neither expensive diagnostic technology nor drugs may be available.

  1. The Sanford Guides are updated annually, reflecting new drugs, shifting resistance patterns, the emergence of new diseases, and the changing availability and efficacy of anti-infective therapies. The format of both these books is uniquely designed for use in the field--whether hospital wards, physician examining rooms, walk-in clinics or wherever treatment decisions are made. Whether in electronic or print format, the content is current, concise and easy to use.

  1. The Sanford Guides do not replace textbooks, journals, or official and professional guidelines; instead, the Sanford Guides allow the busy clinician, pharmacist, nurse or other professional to carry the essentials of that information in their pocket. Treatment decisions are not made in the library, but at the point of care. In today’s complex world of infectious diseases, having the essential treatment guidelines in your pocket makes for consistent, informed decisions where it counts the most--patient care.
