Samir S. Shah, MD, MSCE is Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs and Education at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, where he also holds the Research Foundation Endowed Chair. He is also Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Previously, he was the inaugural director of the Division of Hospital Medicine at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Shah is a nationally renowned physician, researcher, mentor, and leadership coach who devotes a portion of his time helping promising healthcare leaders achieve their potential. He brings a collaborative leadership style, an ability to partner to develop innovative strategies to address complex challenges, and a commitment to excellence in every aspect of child health. Board-certified in pediatrics, pediatric infectious diseases, and pediatric hospital medicine, Dr. Shah provides care to children who are ill enough to require hospitalization.
Dr. Shah attended medical school at Yale University School of Medicine and completed pediatric residency training as well as fellowship training in both Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Academic General Pediatrics at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Dr. Shah serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Hospital Medicine, as editor or co-editor of 12 books, and as co-author of >600 peer reviewed research publications, chapters, reviews, and commentaries. His research focuses on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of care for hospitalized children with emphasis on common serious infections. He has developed methods to describe, understand, and reduce variation in care. His cultivation of rigorous research methods and development of the pipeline of academic hospitalists were instrumental to building pediatric hospital medicine into an academic discipline. These efforts led to his selection as a Master in Hospital Medicine, the Society of Hospital Medicine’s highest honor.
